Not Going Out, Time to Look Inside!
Tuning in to our inner world
After nearly two weeks of lock down we are all getting used to the idea of spending more time in our homes. While I am sure this has brought many challenges it is also an opportunity to inner reflection and growth. We are very good at distracting ourselves with external stimuli such as social events, retail therapy and leisure pursuits, but when we are stripped back to basics what can we discover about ourselves?
It is the perfect time to realign with who we are and what we aspire to! If life has not been panning out how you thought it might and you are not where you thought you would be perhaps this time can be used to decide what you really want. Many of us do not really know what we want in life or who we are as we spend very little time on inner reflection.
What areas of our lives are we really content with? It is easier to ignore these areas of discontent when we have outside distractions, but they can become uncomfortably apparent while we are forced to retreat from the world we are used to. I believe we can all make the changes we want once we take stock, are completely honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our own lives. It is very easy to blame circumstances and others for where we find ourselves, but all we gain from doing that is excuses to hold us back. The only real power we have is to take out the blame of others, situations and ourselves and take responsibility for our part in our current status.
Many of us have have experienced all manner of obstacles that may have held us back, but when we truly take the time to know ourselves and allow ourselves the space to grow spiritually we can learn to be more resilient.Living in the past will only bring more of the same. It takes courage to step into the unknown and have faith, but once you let go of past programming it is far easier to move forward into a new more positive future.
I have found the following steps help to find peace and contentment from within:
- Learn to be patient with yourself. Everyone makes mistakes give yourself the allowances you would for your best friend
- Take time to list what you would like to change about yourself
- What resources do you have to help you with these changes?
- Use EFT to work through any resistance to accepting those aspects you had previously decided you were unhappy with
- Take time to list your best attributes
- What would those around you say about you?
- Imagine you have been transported to the future and have learnt to accept everything about yourself even the things you didn't previously like. As you look back at you what guidance would you send back to you in 2020?
- Imagine sending that guidance to you in 2020 in what ever way makes sense to you. It could be a beam of light or sent in a gift. Whatever method you use send it with unconditional love knowing that the you in 2020 is doing their best
- As you now become aware of receiving that guidance notice as you receive the unconditional love it was sent with and allow the guidance to envelope you like a big hug
- Forgive yourself for anything you are still holding onto from the past. There is nothing you can do about what has happened and holding onto guilt and judgement does not serve anyone. We all do our best given our current resources and situations. Learning from past mistakes and making conscious decisions to approach challenges differently promotes learning, development and personal growth. Admitting we made a mistake to ourselves gives us the opportunity to forgive.
- Send forgiveness to anyone who was connected to past challenges for they were doing their best too! Forgiveness allows you to move forwards with acceptance and love.
